How the list was created
The list of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023, sponsored by Perrier, was created from the votes cast by the 680 members of the Voting Academy. This gender-balanced panel comprises industry experts, including drinks writers, bartenders and educators and well-travelled cocktail enthusiasts.
In 2023, each of the voters was asked to cast up to seven of the best cocktail experiences from within the voting period, with a maximum of five from their home region. If voters were unable to travel due to restrictions on international movement, they had no obligation to vote for any bars outside of their home region. The resulting list was a simple computation of the voting data, independently adjudicated by professional services consultancy Deloitte. Read more about the voting process here.

In the weeks preceding the ceremony and unveiling of this year’s ranking, two special awards were announced. Tres Monos in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was named the recipient of the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award 2023 for its lauded service and GN Chan, co-founder of New York City’s Double Chicken Please, was bestowed the Altos Bartenders’ Bartender Award 2023, the only peer-voted accolade of The World’s 50 Best Bars programme.
