The 12th edition of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, is returning to Rio de Janeiro for the reveal of a brand-new ranking at a live awards ceremony on 26 November at 20:25 local time. Here’s how to follow the action from home

Since 2013, Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants has shined a spotlight on the leading gastronomic talent from across the region. After a successful Brazilian debut in one of the world’s most iconic destinations last year, the celebrations are returning to Rio de Janeiro in 2024 for an unforgettable series of events.

This year’s programme will bring a series of thought-leadership seminars, exclusive dining collaborations and more to the city, all culminating in the highly coveted awards ceremony at the Museu Histórico Nacional on 26 November, where the new list will be revealed.

ONLINE ANNOUNCEMENT: Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 51-100 list

Ahead of the main ranking reveal, the extended list of venues placed between 51st and 100th will be unveiled in an online premiere on the 50 Best Restaurants YouTube channel on Tuesday 12 November at 12:00 Rio de Janeiro time.

The teams behind the soon-to-be-ranked restaurants will walk the red carpet of Rio’s Museu Histórico Nacional with their hopes high ahead of the reveal of the new ranking. Following a drinks reception, the leading lights of Latin American gastronomy will take their seats in the storied venue for the countdown reveal, commencing at 20:25 local time.

In addition to the reveal of restaurants ranked between 50th and 1st, a host of special accolades will be bestowed to establishments and individuals throughout the evening, including the Woodford Reserve Icon Award, Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef Award, sponsored by República del Cacao, Estrella Damm Chefs’ Choice Award and Sustainable Restaurant Award, among others.

Three award winners were announced in the weeks preceding the awards ceremony, including the American Express One To Watch Award, Clara in Quito, Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award, Tuju in São Paulo, and Latin America’s Best Female Chef, Marsia Taha Mohamed. Each will also have their moment on stage to soak up the applause.

Immediately following the ceremony

As the ceremony reaches its crescendo with the reveal of The Best Restaurant in Latin America 2024, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, the team behind the newly crowned No.1 will then take part in an exclusive live interview, hosted on the 50 Best Instagram page.

After sharing an initial reaction with 50 Best, the team will then head to the press conference, answering further questions from the media.

50 Best’s established thought-leadership series returns this year to explore the unique flavours of Latin America. This year’s star-studded line-up of speakers includes chef Mistuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura of four-time No.1 Maido, Eduardo Ortiz and Luana Sabino of Metzi, 2024 Champions of Change winner João Diamante, Pía León of Kjolle with S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Award winner Nelson Freitas, Thalía Barrios García of Levadura de Olla and Mario Castrellón of Maito. Each will deliver a showcase of the ingredients and recipes unique to their homeplace.

Delicious dishes and superb cocktails will be flowing all night as the teams behind the restaurants included in the upcoming ranking have the chance to reunite and imbibe the day before the ceremony. This year’s Chefs’ Feast will take place at the Sel d'Ipanema Beach Club, located just a stone’s throw from the water.
