…Barcelona! The world’s most-prestigious bars awards will be leaving London for the first time in its 13-year history, as 50 Best announces that the unveiling of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022, sponsored by Perrier, will take place on 4th October in the Catalan capital
In a long-awaited first, The World’s 50 Best Bars is going on the road. It will start its international journey in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain with a series of events to celebrate the global bar community including the reveal of the 2022 ranking at a live awards ceremony, which viewers will be able to watch on Facebook and YouTube. It will then continue the voyage by moving the event outside Europe for the first time in 2023.

The 50 Best week will kick off with a Bartenders’ Feast on Monday, 3rd October, which will be followed by The World’s 50 Best Bars gala awards evening on Tuesday, 4th October. Details of other events in the programme will be announced nearer the time, including the launch of Barcelona’s first cocktail week, which will be organised by 50 Best’s official host partner, Escolà, and its official destination partner, Barcelona Council.
Voted on by an esteemed Academy of over 650 anonymous drinks aficionados spread across the globe, the 2022 ranking draws from the knowledge and experiences of the widest pool of experts ever. The gender-balanced panel will vote confidentially with voting requirements once again adjusted to take into account varying travel restrictions over the past 18 months. In the run-up to the events in Barcelona, 50 Best will reveal the winners of two special awards designed to celebrate the exceptional achievements of one bar and one bartender, as well as those venues ranked in the extended list from 51st to 100th Here are the key dates to add to your calendar:
- 31st August: Michter’s Art of Hospitality. This award is voted for by members of The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, who are each asked to name the bar where they received the single best hospitality experience during the voting period
- 13th September: Altos Bartenders’ Bartender. This accolade is voted for by the head bartenders from those bars on this year’s list, who are asked to name a peer who has done most to further the craft of bartending, with reference to their work in supporting the ongoing recovery of the bar sector in the wake of the pandemic
- 27th September: 51-100 list. One week before the in-person awards ceremony, 50 Best will reveal those bars ranked between 51st and 100th via its website and social media channels
The countdown of the list of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022, sponsored by Perrier, will also be broadcast live to a global audience via our digital channels. Bars and cocktail lovers are invited to join through The World’s 50 Best Bars Facebook page and 50 Best Bars TV channel on YouTube.
