The Caterpillar Club
Sydney, Australia
The Caterpillar Club is one of Syndey's most audacious drinking dens. For starters, there’s the sheer size of it. The underground bar and music venue comprises 200 seats, but instead of feeling overwhelming, the space is perfectly compartmentalised into a few intimate spaces – all of which are warmed by wood panelling and retro red booths. The bar, which almost runs the length of the room and requires at least five bartenders to man on a busy evening, is perfect for a date night or solo drinking as guests can admire one of the world’s largest private record collections on the back bar while sipping on nostalgic classics such as their twist on the Piña Colada (rum, fig leaf, pineapple, lime, salted coconut). And the nostalgia doesn’t stop with the Lychee Martinis and Coladas. Nostalgic dishes like the indulgent knickerbocker glory and fish fingers are also elevated and, as if it didn’t already have enough going on, The Club also houses a secret bar called Bamboo Room, a haven for tropical cocktail lovers that offers a bit of escapism from the main bar.
