Man Ho

Hong Kong, China

Amidk the competitive dim sum houses and trolley-pushing lunch destinations of Hong Kong is one particular spot that continually proves that Cantonese food deserves more time in the spotlight. Man Ho, the uber-smart restaurant inside the JW Marriott Hotel, is on the opposite side of the spectrum from the city’s fabled hole-in-wall local eateries. It’s lavish and shiny, with interiors set to resemble a Chinese garden (lots of rippling chandeliers and marble half-moon doorways), but the food, while fancy in approach, really goes back to basics. Some dishes are so popular they need to be pre-ordered, including the Peking duck, but it’s wise to select a few other favourites including the double-boiled fish maw soup and braised pork belly. There’s also a very good selection of traditional teas for sipping throughout your meal.
