The Table Kevin Fehling

Hamburg, Germany

From the second you walk inside this trendy restaurant, it’s obvious where your eyes are intended to be. Every seat at the single sinuous table points towards an open kitchen where Kevin Fehling (the youngest German chef to be awarded three Michelin stars) oversees an expert team creating elaborate but expertly balanced tasting menus. There is no front of house team and the chefs serve the tables themselves, so if you have any questions you can be sure of getting the inside track. A highlight of every service is playful nibbles – think carbonara in an eggshell, fish macarons presented like tiny sandwiches and gourmet versions of the Mexican taco. Its location in a former port area on an island in the Elbe river, a long way from Frankfurt’s other fine diners, means it is a favourite with the city’s hipster types.
