A sibling of the acclaimed China Kitchen at Delhi’s Hyatt Regency, China House lives up to the luxury surrounds within the Grand Hyatt Mumbai with a loungey decor of leather armchairs set at polished wooden tables in a room divided by elegant lattice screens. An open kitchen at one end of the room provides light and drama, but if you find the overall effect too dark and moody, the terrace outside is a brighter alternative, weather permitting. The Cantonese menu trots through the classics of dim sum and soups, wok-fried meats and steamed fish; the Peking duck carved tableside is reckoned to be the best in Mumbai, but presentation throughout the meal is on point. To drink, there are big-name lagers, a lengthy global wine list (with over a dozen by the glass) and a well-selected line-up of Scottish whiskies, as well as cocktails in the nightclubby bar.
