A Goan-inspired spin-off of Mumbai’s celebrated Bombay Canteen, O Pedro showcases not only the seafood-heavy cuisine of the coastal state but also of the Portuguese who colonised it for 450 years. A location amidst the shiny corporate towers of the Bandra Kurla Complex might not seem the most obvious place for an ode to the backpackers’ paradise, but once inside, the shabby-chic decor of cane chairs and lace curtains transmits an authentic holiday vibe, even if the only backpack the well-heeled clientele would ever wear would be monogrammed Louis Vuitton. Boldly spiced vegetable dishes are a highlight of a playful menu which nods to home cooking and is just as likely to feature piri-piri chicken as chicken xacuti. To drink, there are Indian and new world wines, classic cocktails and in-house creations.
