Hotel de Russie

Rome, Italy

In 1917, Jean Cocteau dubbed the Hotel de Russie "paradise on Earth" while visiting with Igor Stravinsky and Pablo Picasso – and it’s easy to see why. This Roman grande dame is steeped in style and history, with a secret garden where guests enjoy aperitivi or dinner amid spell-binding architecture, leafy palms and fragrant orange trees, once picked by Cocteau and Picasso from their bedroom windows. Today, the hotel forms part of Rocco Forte’s European hotel empire, where rooms are opulent without being ostentatious, adorned with classic colour palettes, rich fabrics, unique ornaments and Roman mosaics in the Italian marble bathrooms. There’s also an extensive spa area, complete with a mosaic-inlaid pool, Finnish sauna and steam rooms and a long list of treatments including facials from cult brand Skinceuticals, creating a stress-busting retreat from the hubbub of Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps nearby.
