Dry ice, handmade syrups and cutting-edge garnishes don't get a look in at Bar Oscar. For old-world class and confident pours, however, it’s one of Fukuoka’s leading lights – and has been for some 20 years. The wood-panelled, sixth-floor space offers views over the city’s Daimyo neighbourhood; the staff are warm and hospitable; and a soundtrack of smooth jazz hits the perfect note. All the classics are here (think daiquiris, whisky sours and a perfectly proportioned Manhattan), along with some original numbers, such as the ‘Four Leaf Clover’ (a heady blend of Midori liqueur and Hibiki whisky).
