Doras

Tokyo, Japan

The name of this bar, on the banks of the Sumida River, explains everything about the ethos of Bar Doras. Meaning “doorway” in Gaelic, the bar’s founder, Yasutaka Nakamori, intends it to be a gateway between Tokyo’s Hanakawado and Scotland, as well as the rest of Europe. This is reflected in the decor of this minuscule space, with countless nods to the Western continent. Opened in 2005, the bar continues to only sell European spirits, with a focus on Cognac and Scotch whisky, and an extensive selection overall. While there’s no cocktail list, the focus is on the classics – think Martinis, Sidecars and Rob Roys.
