Hotel Albergo Restaurant

Beirut, Lebanon

More often than not a hotel restaurant disappoints. It’s never what you want it to be or simply, you’d rather venture outside the lobby doors to see what’s happening in the city itself. But, in the case of Hotel Albergo – maybe, if not the, best spot to bed down in Beirut – their restaurant is a destination in its own right. It’s a real mix of Oriental chintz, Italian glamour and Mediterranean soul: the space is decked out in Venetian blinds, thick Persian rugs, Damascus mother-of-pearl tables and a cosy library feel (in the winter months while in the summer, you’re out on the terrace). As for the food? It’s all-day focused, with a standout capellini pasta dish, tossed with fresh asparagus and a velvety white Alba truffle-flavoured cream, crowd-pleasing fresh burrata and a perfectly-roasted salmon on a bed of freekeh. Iced mint teas are also very welcome when the sun shines.
