Hotel Bruma Casa 8

Ensenada, Mexico

Set in the wilderness of Baja California’s Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's largest wine region, Bruma Casa 8 is grounded in nature. As its name suggests, there are eight suites, housed in low-key buildings that have been designed by architect Alejandro D’Acosta to disappear into their surroundings. Wood, iron and natural river stone all come into play, with floor-to-ceiling windows leaning into the outdoor-indoor aesthetic. Interiors are earthy, blending traditional and contemporary Mexican design. While some of the suites come with their own outdoor bathtubs, there’s also a shared deck area with a pool strategically built for views across Bruma’s vineyards and the rugged mountain-scape beyond. The communal lounge has a wood-burning fire for cosy nights. The softy-lit Fauna restaurant is just next door, where stylish oenophiles – fresh from visiting the Bruma winery – gather at long wooden tables (either inside or under a blanket of stars) to feast on David Castro Hussong’s fresh, authentic menu, and savour the exceptional wines poured by a knowledgeable staff. Bruma Bakery is a breakfast must-do, overseen by Maribel Aldaco Silva, with both establishments regularly featuring on The World’s 50 Best lists.
