Le Petit Cornichon
Marrakech, Morocco
Chef Erwann Lance cut his teeth in the high-end restaurants of chefs Eric Ripert, Yannick Alléno and his mentor, Michel Rostang, before opening his own more down-to-earth spot in the modern Marrakech neighbourhood of Guéliz. Lance takes a bistronomic approach to service and cuisine at Le Petit Cornichon, combining the conviviality and simplicity of a bistro with refined gastronomy, hence the moniker. Seasonal produce is at the heart of the menu and the use of local ingredients champions Moroccon produce and puts a modern riff on French classics. One of the signature dishes and a customer favourite is a cosy beef wellington, which also has a vegetarian counterpart due to popular demand, with earthy roasted beetroot replacing the meat. As Lance is also enthusiastic about wines, the restaurant’s upstairs wine cellar is one of the largest in Morocco, with over 350 references and enough space to host up to six if you’d prefer to dine there. Drop by on Mondays for a set price steak frites and for lunch for another well priced prix fixe menu. In summer a seat on the terrace is the one to snag.
