Restaurant Wils

Amsterdam, Netherlands

When the Olympic flame was returned to Amsterdam in 1928, architect Jan Wils designed the iconic stadium that Restaurant Wils now overlooks, as well as the Move Building where this brasserie-style establishment is to be found on the third floor. The theme of flames is developed within the restaurant itself. As soon as you enter, you’ll be struck by the smell of baking sourdough bread in a wood fire oven and the sound of meat sizzling over a fire pit in the open kitchen. Executive chef Joris Bijdendijk presides over a six-course tasting menu or à la carte with paired wines. Whether it’s the delicious sea bream, artichoke and melon from the former or the fennel, orange and beurre blanc from the latter, it’s a special destination for both architecture and gastronomy. Opening days are fairly limited, so it’s definitely worth checking before turning up.
