Gostilna na Gradu has arguably the best location of any restaurant in the Slovenian capital – housed within the centuries-old walls of Ljubljana Castle, which overlooks the city from a hill above the River Ljubljanica. Chef Sebastjan Elbl puts together a modern take on traditional dishes from across Slovenia, with an emphasis on seasonal produce. The restaurant offers a lunchtime à la carte menu, and (at lunch and dinner) a well-priced seasonal tasting menu – with dishes along the lines of skuta (fermented curd cheese) with trout roe, venison with cranberries, and sea bass with parsnip purée and charred fennel. Together with the restaurant at Bled Castle, Gostilna na Gradu is run by the highly respected Jezeršek Catering brand, under the guidance of head chef Luka Jezeršek.
