Geumdwaeji Sikdang

Seoul, South Korea

It might seem counterintuitive that one of the most popular spots for samgyeopsal (Korean pork belly) is located in Seoul’s most famous area for tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). But this legendary white-tiled restaurant undoubtedly dishes out some of the best barbecue pork in the entire city. Geumdwaeji Sikdan, which translates as 'Golden Pig', specialises in cuts of YBD pig – a hybrid of Yorkshire, Berkshire and Duroc breeds. And if the queue of customers is any indication – it’s pretty consistent during all operating hours as it’s a no-reservation establishment – this multi-floor restaurant is the place to come for authentic Korean barbecue. Once inside, ride the interactive wave: big cast-iron grills are there for sizzling proteins over coal briquettes. Go for a spread of pork neck, loin and shoulder which also comes with leafy lettuce, kimchi and steamed rice.
