A staple of Barcelona’s drinking scene since it opened in the 1970s by the original family behind the city’s legendary Boadas bar, Caribbean Club is now run by Juanjo Gonzalez Rubiera. Having once worked at Boadas himself, among other highly-regarded Barcelona Bars, Rubeira presides over this intimate space, with its Cuban influences and dedication to rum. Past a nondescript entrance lies a bar filled with nautical decoration that makes it feel like a boat’s interior. Bartenders throw drinks in the old-fashioned way, primarily producing a selection of rum-based cocktails for guests. Caribbean Club is a gloriously old school establishment that is infused with both history and hospitality, with a seriously impressive collection of bottles for fans of rum too, but most people go for Rubeira himself.
