StreetXO
Madrid, Spain
Department stores and fine-dining aren't typical bedfellows, but the two come together beautifully at StreetXO, the most casual of superstar chef Dabiz Muñoz's Madrid venues. Sitting snug on the third floor of Salamanca's El Corte Inglés, the restaurant dishes up high-end riffs on Asian street food, with a menu that runs the gamut from Josper-roasted scallop and Korean ‘lasagne’ to foie gras ramen and crispy crab with curry leaves, Andean mayonnaise and chips. The cocktails are no less funky, touting the likes of Huevo de la Pedroche, which uses cachaça, mango chutney, coconut, mandarin, yuzu and white chocolate, and the Ceviche Sour, made from liquid ceviche, tequila, mezcal, vermouth and a red onion and coriander cordial. Decor meanwhile will leave jaws slack: raw and edgy in feel, with concrete walls, industrial accents, neon lights and graffiti-style artwork – with a striking, red red bar encircling the open kitchen to foster communal dining.
