Nihonbashi

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Nihonbashi takes its name from Tokyo’s famed bridge, considered the centre of Japan. In Colombo, its namesake restaurant takes on similar significance for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine. Opened in 1995 by self-taught Sri Lankan-Japanese chef Dharshan Munidasa – long before the success of his Ministry of Crab. The à la carte menu runs the gamut from sushi and nabe hot pot to showstopping mains such as the olive oil kake tai cha, where sizzling garlic and olive oil are poured over sliced sea bream sashimi and an egg yolk over rice.
