Kwānt Mayfair

London, UK

Kwānt 2.0 brings much of the original Kwānt’s charms – Erik Lorincz’s madcap creativity; artful interiors; immaculately white-jacketed bartenders; dazzlingly surprising drinks – to London's Stratton Street, an olive stone’s throw from the Ritz (and from the bar's former home on Heddon Street). Ceiling fans, palms, chess-board-topped tables, yolk-yellow bouclé furnishings and a striking steel bar provide retro sartorial swagger. The name Kwānt is a derivative of quaint and the spirits collection is suitably vintage, but the flavour combinations and artistry reveal thoroughly modern sensibilities. Take the Wallet, for example, which stars Woodford Reserve Bourbon, black miso, barley vermouth, chestnut and salted maple with a garnish of pickled white asparagus topped with dill. Bar snacks showcase the same inventive combinations and pleasing mix of textures. Lorincz’s experimental approach can occasionally be divisive, but it’s hard to deny the ambition and wizardry of this W1 wildcard.
