With white-washed exposed brick bearing a mishmash of framed artwork, small tables warmed by glowing lamps and vintage tin ceilings, the atmosphere at Clover Hill feels cosy and romantic in a way that evokes the locals-only vibes of Europe’s best cafés, or a low-key dinner party at a friend’s place upstate. The cuisine, on the other hand, orchestrated by executive chef Sam Rogers (formerly of Jungsik and Per Se), is small plate fine dining at its most exciting and exquisite, with a tasting menu centred around seasonal seafood and meat (vegetarians, you are out of luck here). The open kitchen extends the homey feel, as do the welcoming staff, who deliver and explain each dish without pomp and circumstance. With only 20 seats in the house, reservations are required.
