Casa Cipriani
New York, US
Built at the dawn of the 20th century, the Battery Maritime Building served as a ferry terminal for boats travelling from Manhattan to Brooklyn across the East River, and today the magnificent Beaux Arts building houses Casa Cipriani, an exclusive private members club run by the iconic Italian hotelier group. The transformation of the hotel was overseen by Thierry Despont, the architect and designer who also redesigned The Carlyle, Claridge’s in London and The Ritz in Paris. With interiors that reflect the design of a vintage luxury ocean liner, many of the 28 guest rooms and 19 suites have outdoor terraces and jaw-dropping views of the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. Art Deco design infused with Italian flourishes flows throughout the property, touching the enormous spa, restaurant, promenade lounge, bar, and jazz café areas, which offer a number of different food and drink options, including staples from Harry’s Bar, such as baked tagliolini with ham and vanilla meringue cake.
