Theodore Rex

Houston, US

After closing Oxheart, celebrated Houston chef Justin Yu re-entered the dining scene with a more easy-going dining experience via Theodore Rex—named after his nephew Theodore—in Houston’s eclectic warehouse district in 2018. The “relaxed fine dining” restaurant boasts a menu that blends Gulf ingredients and influences (braised greens, buttermilk, oysters, and tilefish) with subtle hints of European and Asian influence (jasmine tea, kombu, dumplings and tagliolini). The vibes inside are as cool as the playful attitude of the menu with ample natural light softening exposed brick walls and long-stemmed light fixtures adding to the industrial chic ambiance. A great spot for humble-yet-inventive bites, Theodore Rex is just as enjoyable on an early weeknight as it is on bustling weekends when the space comes alive with hungry Houstonians.
