March

Houston, US

March is at the vanguard of Houston’s burgeoning fine dining scene. Helmed by chef Felipe Riccio and star sommelier June Rodil, the restaurant’s graceful service, sleek wood interiors and well-balanced tasting menus bring a measure of understated sophistication to the hip Montrose district. March’s style is described as Mediterranean – and the team is quite aware of the term’s ambiguity. Riccio embraces that fluidity, refreshing the restaurant's menu twice a year into new 'seasons' that highlight the history, culture and food of a new part of the region. Now in its sixth iteration, the current menu focuses on the Catalan-speaking areas of the Iberian peninsula. Within its tasting menu, available in either six or nine courses, expect snacks of salt cod croquetas, plates of squid ink fideuà and fricandós of beef short rib, mushrooms and chestnuts, topped with a herby picada.

Likewise, the drinks pairings pivots from season to season, each catered to showcase the current region at hand. For its Catalan-focused offering, expect bold vintages from southern France and northern Spain. Don't forget the glass of house vermouth to start.
