Bad News Bar has been a no-nonsense stalwart of the Houston cocktail scene serving the downtown business crowd since industry vets Justin Burrows, Brad Moore and Ryan Rouse first opened the space in 2013. The long and narrow room, located on the second floor of a historic 1800s-era building, has saloon vibes thanks to the vintage wood bartop and floors, plus chandeliers swinging from the ceiling. Drinks-wise, the bar’s elevated selection of whiskies from around the world is rivalled only by its smart collection of agave spirits. You can’t go wrong with any classic cocktail order either, as the staff are required to learn the ins and outs of the canon before moving on to create originals, which tend to skew boozy and bitter. A regular go-to spot for industry folks who know they’ll get no-frills service and great drinks any time of the day or night.
