Claud

New York, US

Owners Chase Sinzer and Joshua Pinsky met while working at Momofuku Ko on Extra Place. With the popular East Village restaurant Claud – named after Sinzer’s mother Claudia – the duo, who also serve as the wine specialist and chef, respectively, have infused a grounded, restrained attitude into a menu of French-inflected cuisine. Shared-plate portions are generous, with ingredients treated directly and without too much fuss. Dishes like the garlic shrimp cooking in olive oil (yes, cooking at the table), are a highlight. The wine list features mostly bottles from France and Spain, plus a curveball section of saké options from Japan and a single beer offering: Budweiser. Guests with a sweet tooth will relish in the devil’s food cake for two, a truly decadent way to end a meal.
