Clean, bright and casual, this spot in San Francisco’s Mission district in no way looks like it would become a destination venue. But just one year after opening in 2014, it did just that, winning accolade after accolade. With three bartending pals behind its concept, the short drink menu is awash with creative, but equally approachable, cocktails, all of which are categorised by spirit. Beyond ingredients such as grapefruit shrubs, sherry and smoked pear bitters, ABV also has three beers on tap and three draft wines. A small but thoughtful small plate menu completes the bar’s perfect offering.
