You have to really want to go to this bona fide HCMC speakeasy. With no online presence, Telephone Bar channels the Berlin style of speakeasy – you know, the kind that lurk in the back of a betting shop or kebab joint that your cool mate knows about and you couldn’t find again if you tried. You’ll know Telephone Bar when you find it though – entrance is through two red London phone booths on the side of a similarly red-paned corner building in the central District 1. Mosey on through and pick up the phone to open the door to a hand-crafted, moody space that evokes a 1940s London pub, red chesterfields and all. The drinks menu puts heavy emphasis on gin and whisky-based tipples – there’s an impressive directory of both on offer – alongside familiar favourites done well.
