Official Sustainability Audit Partner
The Sustainable Restaurant Association (The SRA) works to accelerate change towards an environmentally restorative and socially progressive hospitality sector.
Since 2013, The SRA has been the Sustainability Audit Partner for 50 Best, using their industry-recognised, hospitality-specific sustainability accreditation tool to judge the winner of the Sustainable Restaurant and Sustainable Bar awards – and now also the first-ever Eco Hotel Award.
The SRA defines venues’ sustainability using its holistic ten-pronged framework and assesses their performance across three core areas: Sourcing, Society and Environment.
Sourcing: recognises establishments celebrating provenance; sourcing responsibly; serving more plants and better meat and fish; and supporting farmers and fishers
Society: focuses on venues treating staff well; using their influence at the top end of the industry to promote sustainable travel; and supporting their local communities
Environment: recognises establishments that are working to reduce their footprint; from energy, water and carbon to packaging and single-use items; and minimising food waste
All venues in The World’s 50 Best Hotels list are eligible to apply for the Eco Hotel Award. The winner is the property that best demonstrates that it is doing good as well as upholding the highest standards of hospitality.

The SRA’s assessment tool, the Food Made Good Standard, is now available to help venues around the world tackle the issues affecting us all. Since 2010, more than 10,000 sites have benefitted from completing this comprehensive assessment process.
Not only does The SRA use the Food Made Good Standard to assess sustainability, it celebrates success and inspires positive change via its online community of like-minded hospitality professionals, free to join for anyone working in hospitality.
