Acorde

Guayaquil, Ecuador

There’s a decadence to Acorde, located in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, with its deep red curtains and dramatic, moody lighting. This immersive space seamlessly blends art, cocktails and music into a satisfying whole, starting with the exhibition adorning the walls. Among the bar’s co-owners is a well-known art historian specialising in Ecuadorian art who has curated a collection of work from the country’s artists. The music-themed cocktail menu, designed by drinks programme director Ignacio Maggio, is split into sections including Triads, combining acid and sweet elements with various tonics, while the Acapellas section consists of non-alcoholic creations, with an accompanying trio of short narrative passages written by Argentine writer Hugo Frankenstein and illustrated by an Ecuadorian artist. Each represents a cocktail, but with no overt description of ingredients or flavour. It’s an intriguing approach, in keeping with this compelling cocktail destination.
