Jamavar at The Leela Palace

Bengaluru, India

Gold-flecked traditional paintings, hand-carved screens, paisley-adorned carpets, majestic chandeliers, double-height ceilings and glittering silver table settings: Jamavar’s opulent, indulgent dining experience reflects The Leela Palace’s dedication to the ideology of 'Atithi Devo Bhava', a Sanskrit phrase from ancient Hindu scripture that translates as 'the guest is God'. Prepare to be venerated on a visit to this lavish Bengaluru restaurant, the first of a now five-strong restaurant brand based in several Indian cities as well as London. An expansive à la carte menu explores the country’s northern Royal Kitchens cuisine. Expect to encounter refreshing buttermilk appetisers, spiced soups and tandoor-cooked kebabs alongside Jamavar classics such as murgh makhani, baingan bharta and black dal. Don’t skip dessert: kulfis, gulab jamun and coconut payasams provide a princely end to a meal. A large, international wine list includes a number of Indian bottles, while the cocktail selection explores the flavour possibilities of the gin and tonic (invented in India), alongside signature pours spiked with indigenous ingredients of coconut oil and black cardamom.
