Seafood restaurant Midar (meaning “hook”) takes diners on a journey through time, offering a modern twist on traditional Kuwaiti coastal cuisine while paying homage to the country’s golden era of the 1960s and 1970s. Dreamed up by Basil Al-Salem, the founder and CEO of Kuwait-based hospitality group Gastronomica, the restaurant artfully blends design, cuisine, and music to celebrate an era when seafood was synonymous with quality, simplicity and warm hospitality. Situated in The Gardens at The Avenues, the dining room’s design is inspired by Kuwait's desert roots and urban transformation, its decor featuring fish-scale patterns, vintage brass accents and old fishing nets on the ceiling. Feast on signature creations such as royal muttabag (an elevated rice dish), crab curry, and shrimp mumawash, or make a selection from the fresh catch of the day, sourced from local fishermen. The sticky date cake is a standout dessert and the complimentary regular or Lumi herbal tea rounds things off nicely.
