The Peninsula London

London, UK

The Peninsula group spent three decades looking for a London site, finally settling on a prime spot overlooking Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch. The hotel’s multi-multi-million-pound design draws inspiration from its Belgravia surroundings, incorporated into the interiors by Peter Marino. The colonnaded lobby sets the tone; it’s here, amidst the hand-painted de Gournay landscape murals and hand-blown chandeliers, guests partake of the ever-evolving afternoon tea. Acclaimed chef Claude Bosi oversees the modern British menu at rooftop Brooklands, which pays homage to the classic eras of British aviation and motorsport, hence the aluminium model of Concorde suspended from the ceiling, while Canton Blue serves Cantonese dishes at intimate private booths. The 190 guest rooms and suites further set this hotel apart, each with a mahogany-panelled dressing room and a bathroom crafted from honey onyx. Even the uniforms, designed by Jenny Packham, reflect the hotel’s attention-to-detail. The spa comprises a state-of-the-art fitness centre, 25-metre indoor pool, saunas and steam rooms, and seven treatment rooms offering ancient and contemporary therapies. The hotel even features a shopping arcade, so you can browse luxury brands including jewellers Asprey and Garrard and the in-house floral atelier.
