Ace Hotel Brooklyn
Brooklyn, US
The creative spirit of Boerum Hill positively vibrates throughout the Ace Hotel Brooklyn, which is the third location designed by the acclaimed Roman and Williams design firm. As such, a dynamic balance of style and substance defines the muscular 13-story tower, which was created in collaboration with Stonehill Taylor architects (known for their work in other famous NYC hotels including the NoMad, Peninsula, St. Regis and more). Inside, a grounded scheme of earth tones soften the commanding angles of the hotel’s communal spaces (gallery, bar, lobby, and restaurant), which follow the design philosophy of primitive modernism. And as a nod to the history of the neighborhood, every room and space has been decorated with custom art from mostly local artists – including a textile programme featuring 36 artists from various walks of life. In the rooms, attention to craftsmanship can be seen in details large and small. From the bedcovers, hand-woven by Heritage Weavers in Maine (est. 1850), to the expert Doug Fir paneling, exposed concrete and sweeping windows, every element collides to create a handsome aesthetic. Unsurprisingly, the artsy hotel draws a diverse sea of young creative types from around the globe to its doors—consider it a modern bohemian enclave.
