Hotel Chelsea
New York, US
The storied Hotel Chelsea, which first opened in 1884 as a private co-op, has a past rich enough to fill volumes, with famous clientele including Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix, Mark Twain, Jack Kerouac, Andy Warhol and many, many more. The hotel reopened in 2022 after an 11-year closure, following a full renovation by the dynamic trio of owners – Richard Born, Ira Drukier, and Sean MacPherson – known for iconic projects like The Bowery, The Jane, and The Maritime. Now featuring 158 guest rooms that vary in size and feature nods to the hotel’s rock-and-roll history (such as Marshall Bluetooth speakers), many original elements throughout the property were fastidiously preserved to keep the spirit of the original hotel alive. El Quijote, a legendary spot once frequented by Janis Joplin and Robert Mapplethorpe, has reopened under Sunday Hospitality, offering Spanish cuisine. The group also helms Café Chelsea, the hotel's first new restaurant in a century, featuring classic French dishes in a vintage European bistro setting.
