The Mark

New York, US

The Mark bills itself as ‘the world’s most boldly lavish hotel’. Given the swanky hotel’s elevated Upper East Side address, the Jacques Grange designed Mark rises to the occasion. The experience begins outside the Manhattan retreat where Grange’s signature black and white stripes adorn awnings, umbrellas and even a private pedicab fleet. For good measure, the hotel operates a Jean-Georges Vongerichten catered hot dog cart. The iconic chef is also responsible for The Mark Restaurant, a farm-to-table concept serving European classics with a global twist. Keeping it lavish, there’s also a satellite of Parisian hotspot, Caviar Kaspia. As the doors open, you can catch a hint of the hotel’s custom Frederic Malle scent. Inside, the rooms are equally luxurious. The bathroom’s stonework again features the black and white stripes while the main quarters are painted in a subtle chocolate and ivory palette with deco touches. Liberal use of nickel and hard sycamore offset the soft comfort of the Revival linens. A custom built remote controls lights, audiovideo and curtains. In room dining is also handled by Jean-George and the butlers are certified in shoeshine by John Lobb.
