- No.29 Middle East & North Africa's 50 Best Restaurants 2025
Close your eyes and you might think you are actually be grabbing a slice of pizza in New York’s Lower East Side from the quality of produce and casual style of service. But no, this is the Mina Zayed Port of Abu Dhabi, and Marmellata Bakery comes from father and son Raj and Sebastian Dagstani, who quickly discovered their ‘open one day a week’ sell-out strategy in 2019 wasn’t enough to keep the hungry crowds happy.Fast forward and this neighbourhood pizza is taking the lauded as the best pizza in the city, and possibly the wider region. It’s not totally New York style, or Neopolitan for that matter, but it does blend the two into a thin crusty (but airy) dough – a technique used in its focaccia proving, too – with a few rotating toppings a week, such as figs with gorgonzola, which has proven very popular in the past. There is a cluster of tables in the somewhat unpolished space but queues are often an hour-plus, so arrive early (no reservations allowed).
