Sitting just in front of the beach on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island, Niri is an all in one yakitori restaurant, sushi counter and highball bar, overseen by head chef and sushi master Yasuyuki Takemoto. After heading up his own restaurant Japan, Takemoto held the reins at Abu Dhabi’s now shuttered Matsu before arriving at Niri, where he can be found behind the counter slicing up the freshest sashimi to create the restaurant’s signature nigiris. Alternatively, head to the yakitori for a selection of grilled skewered meats plus Niri’s notable grilled octopus, a deceptively complex dish in terms of flavour, which shows of Takemoto’s more than three decades of experience. When you’re not watching the team shaking up cocktails or deftly rolling sushi rice, make the most of the view, which takes in the seafront and endless blue waters.
