You might be surprised to find this counterculture drinking den tucked away on the ground floor of the luxury H Dubai Hotel. Electric Pawn Shop is all about neon lights and underground music, with a decidedly dystopian feel. As the name suggests, the influences here are eclectic. At its core an Asian-Mediterranean bar and restaurant, it is inspired by New York’s Chinatown in the 1970s, but also contemporary design, with lots of stainless steel, glass and exposed brick. There’s a glass brick DJ booth and a top-end sound system, with regular DJ events. Drinks are in keeping with the rebellious, irreverent feel of the venue, such as the Java Jungle Boogie, with clarified cola, Pawn Shop Coconut Bacardi Blanca, sherry and shiso. As the menu says, “Dive into the mystic mist of the east Java island”.
