Monsoon

Adliya, Bahrain

As its name promises, an evening at Monsoon will flood your senses. The vast site is inspired by a Balinese palace, with a pagoda roof and dragons guarding the carved wooden door. Inside, it’s a whistle-stop tour of fine dining in Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. A sushi bar produces flawless sashimi platters and maki sets best enjoyed in the tatami area where, in true Bahraini style, simple Japanese straw mats are covered in red and gold cushions for added comfort. With its dark-wood floors, carved Buddhas and rattan roof, the main dining room is a slightly formal setting in which to tuck into Thai favourites like Khao pad sapparod served in a hollowed-out pineapple. The star of the show is an Oriental terrace build around an ornamental pool. For real wow factor, request one of the tables on the small island reached by a wooden bridge.
