Clan BBQ

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Beneath a fiery red neon sign that commands, “Nãoapague o meu fogo” (“Don’t put out my fire”),Clan BBQ embraces primordial cooking techniques in the tradition of Brazilian churrasco. A collaboration between two Rio natives – chefs Pep Figueiredo and Newton Rique – the slickly presented dining space in Rio’s trendy beach neighbourhood of Leblon is a flavourful ode to Figueiredo’s late father’s love for barbecue. Dishes – vegetables, fish and meat – are charred and grilled to add smoky intensity. Signature meaty plates including oxtail croquettes, smoked beef tongue cubes with aioli and rosy slithers of Denver steak, but don’t ignore the vegetable dishes: plates like smoky aubergine doused in a sweet and sour miso glaze and grilled corn in a citrus aioli with the tangy touch of cured cheese are well worth a try. Take a seat at the restaurant counter (and grab a fruit-packed cocktail) to watch the magic unfold, or take in the Rio night from the terrace. This is must for churrasco lovers.
