With white linen curtains and a smart turquoise façade, Nelita stands out among Rua Ferreira de Araújo’s many informal bars and bakeries. Rising star Tássia Magalhães’ menus are equally elevated, but the atmosphere she creates alongside her partner Danye Steinle is as warm and unfussy as a neighbourhood trattoria. Named after her mother and specialising in modern versions of Italian classics, Nelita is the sort of place you go to impress a date or with friends who really know their food. On Tuesdays, an 11-course tasting menu called Memorable Times celebrates the memories of the all-female kitchen brigade through experimental dishes that appeal to all five senses. During the rest of the week, a la carte highlights include fresh pasta made daily and house made butter.
