Pelagos

Athens, Greece

On a beautiful peninsular only a short drive from central Athens, Pelagos is a stellar fine-dining option at the Four Seasons Astir Palace. Chef Luca Piscazzi has developed two tasting menus with the most memorable taking its inspiration from the crystalline seas and fertile farmlands of local islands. Here you’ll find sardines with cherry gazpacho (Lesbos), octopus ink and black risotto (Kalymnos) and spinialo red prawn with salamarata (Kalymnos). Each dish is based on Mediterranean cooking techniques with only seasonal ingredients used and paired with an interesting selection of Greek wines. Whilst Piscazzi certainly does experiment with tastes and flavours, each dish remains recognisably something your average Greek grandparent would recognise – albeit in a more gourmet style – and there is therefore something comfortingly nostalgic about a meal here, despite the sleek interiors. Other bonuses include a well-stocked bar, enormous terrace and stunning views over the peninsular. Mini gourmands are welcome over the age of 12.
