Ristorante Consorzio

Turin, Italy

Set off a cobblestoned street in Turin’s baroque centre, this osteria serves the kind of achingly cool plates you’d expect in London’s Hackney or New York’s Williamsburg. The walls are heavily brush-stroked in rustic tones tables dressed in pink pinstriped tablecloths – a substance-over-style vibe that also extends to the menu. Expect unfussy, meat-focused mains, from Piedmontese steak tartare and hefty porterhouse cuts to offal-stuffed ravioli and mutton braised in aromatic cumin, kefir and chickpeas. If you’re more veg-inclined, fear not – the corn tacos with plant-based meatballs, tabasco and tartare sauce are a hot ticket, as are the mountain gnocchi steeped in rich pesto and zucchini cream. The wine list isn’t shabby either, touting a good range of crowd pleasers alongside boutique gems.
