Izakaya

Amman, Jordan

Jordan's first take on a traditional Izakaya (a Japanese pub) is a stylish, stripped-back affair with exposed beams, parquet floor and polished granite bar. Launched by Fig Tree Ventures, who are responsible for some of Jordan's most popular contemporary restaurants like the neighbouring Little Italy Pizzeria, they've clearly put the work in to make this as authentic an experience as possible. The menu is a combination of sushi, from maki rolls to nigiri, plus katsu sandos (a Japanese-style sandwich, with breaded meat or fish in white bread), tempura and a section of larger plates finished on the restaurant's robata grill including miso black cod and Izakaya's signature bonito kebab tonnato. When it comes to drinks there's a short, punchy cocktail list alongside Japanese whiskies and beers, plus a dedicated sake list, which will set you up perfectly forthe excellent wagyu sando.
