Baker's Bar

Montevideo, Uruguay

Wander the streets of Montevideo’s convivial Cordón district and look for the spill of locals taking perch at this corner bar’s street-side tables and you’ll know you’re in the right spot. Standing out from the area’s established wine bars, Baker’s – named after cocktail writer Charles Henry Baker Jr. – has made a solid reputation for itself as the place to go for serious craft cocktails. The nous behind it comes from Santiago Urquhart and Charlie Sarli, alumni of the lauded Parador La Huella (The Best Restaurant in Uruguay 2019). Low-key with a bit of a hipster edge, emblematic pours include Me Mataste – a sophisticated twist on a spritz including Aperol, white wine, ginger syrup, passion fruit and orange juice. Elsewhere, expect tasty tapas bites and DJs on the decks come the weekend.
